Troubleshooting Your Commercial Refrigerator

If you count on your commercial refrigerator for your business, then you need to make sure the refrigerator is always in good working condition, that it is always clean, and that you are always watching for signs of problems, so you can have them taken care of right away. Ignoring issues can put your customers at risk of getting a serious food borne illness, lead to a bad report during an inspection, and cause you to lose customers. Here are some of the things that you need to know about your commercial refrigerator.

The unit isn't cooling like it should

If your refrigeration unit isn't cooling as it should then there are some things that you can check into. If you watch for certain things, then you may be able to take care of them on your own. If you have any doubts about the unit or your ability to tend to it correctly, then you should call a professional out to take care of the problem for you.

You may be having problems with your unit cooling due to the door not closing all the way. Make sure that there is nothing getting in the way that prevents the door from closing how it should. A piece of packaging or anything else can get between the door and the side, preventing it from getting a good seal.

Look at the door seals and make sure they are in good condition and that you don't see any cracks or areas where the seals are mushed in and look like they aren't maintaining their proper shape like the rest of the seals do. If you see any possible problems with the seals, then you should have them replaced. If this was the problem, then it should be resolved with the installation of those brand new seals.

You also want to take a cloth and some cleaner and go around all of the seals to make sure they are all clean. If they are dirty, then this can account for the seals not gripping and sealing the door the way that they should.

The refrigerator is running up your energy bills

If you are seeing a spike in your energy bills and you suspect that the refrigerator may be causing the issue, then you want to make sure you have checked everything detailed above. If everything looks fine, replace the bulbs with LED ones. Also, make sure you keep the refrigerator as full as you can. When you keep the refrigerator full, the food will help to keep the food cooler longer. Empty space in the fridge will cause it to work more to achieve the desired temperature.
